The Catholic Historical Research Center is actively enhancing its extensive archival collection that documents the history of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia through the addition of an oral history program. This project, which initially will focus on the life histories of retired Diocesan priests, will serve to fill gaps in the historical record. This program offers the opportunity for priests to address how they themselves experienced the significant events of the 20th century that took place on both a local and global level. We hope this initiative will enhance researchers’ use of CHRC’s collection as well as visitors’ understanding of historic events as told by those who experienced them first hand. Sound recordings and transcripts of the interviews will soon be accessible.
